AMBASSADORS and leaders from several countries have started sending messages of congratulation to the camp of president-in-waiting Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos, Jr. on his impending win in the 2022 national elections.
According to the partial and unofficial results sourced from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) Transparency Media Server, Marcos, who is set to become the 17th President of the Philippines, is still in the lead with 31,079,568 votes, maintaining a margin of 16,269,633 from his nearest rival as of 1:17 PM, May 11, 2022.
Marcos’ spokesperson and Chief-of-Staff Atty. Vic Rodriguez confirmed that his office had received numerous messages from the members of international diplomatic corps welcoming the incoming administration.
The ambassadors who were first to greet Marcos were Ambassadors Hajah Johariah binti Haji Wahab of Brunei Darussalam, Ilan Fluss of Israel, and F M Borhan Uddin of Bangladesh.
Earlier today, United States (US) State Department spokesman Ned Price told media members in Washington that the US will seek “to strengthen the enduring alliance between the United States and the Philippines.”
Price added that they also see no issue in the conduct of the 2022 Philippine national elections and that it complied with international standards.
“What I can say from a technical standpoint is that we understand the casting and counting of votes to have been conducted in line with international standards and without significant incident,” Price added.
The People’s Republic of China also congratulated the Philippines for the successful conduct of the elections.
Zhao Lijian, China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, said, “China congratulates the Philippines on the smooth presidential election. Our congratulations also go to the leading candidates. We hope and believe that various political forces in the Philippines will continue to work in solidarity for national renewal and development.”
Yesterday, on its official Facebook page, the EU Delegation to the Philippines commended the country for conducting “a peaceful, free, and fair democratic elections.”
The EU Delegation to the Philippines also expressed its readiness “to work with the incoming administration for the next six years and foster closer EU-Philippines relations.”
As of 1:17 PM, May 11, 2022, 98.26% of the nationwide election returns had already been counted, representing 55,147,937 of 67,442,616 registered voters.
Marcos is set to make history as the first majority elected president since the country’s adoption of the multi-party political system.
