Iginiit ni Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello, III ang pagpasa ng bagong batas na magbibigay proteksyon sa delivery riders.
Kasunod ito nang paglalabas ng advisory ng Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) upang makatulong sa pagbuo ng mga panuntunan para sa working relationship ng delivery riders at food delivery companies.
Binigyang diin ni Bello na ang delivery riders na maikukunsider na empleyado ng food delivery apps ay entitled o dapat makakuha ng minimum benefits sa ilalim ng Labor Code of the Philippines.
Kabilang sa mga benepisyo ito aniya ang minimum wage, holiday pay, premium pay, overtime pay, night shift differential, service incentive leave, 13th month pay at retirement pay.
Bukod pa ito sa Occupational Safety and Health Standards Benefits gaya ng SSS, PhilHealth at PAG-IBIG at iba pag benepisyo sa ilalim ng iba pang batas.
Subalit nilinaw ni Bello na ang mga independent contractors o freelancers ay saklaw ng kani-kanilang kontrata o kasunduan sa Digital Platform Company.
