KIANA VALENCIANO

“This is just going to make us tougher. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.” – my daughter Kiana on not being allowed to walk on the LA FASHION WEEK opening show. Former Miss Earth Jamie Herrell and Kiana together with 5 Filipino models (some of who had previously walked on the ramp for Fashion Week) were not being allowed to walk of the ramp for LA FASHION WEEK. “No Filipinos allowed to walk on the ramp!” We want to ask WHY? It was bad enough that you didn’t want to allow the girls but was there a need to publicly humiliate them? And there were only three designers on that 9pm slot. And two were Filipino – Rocky Gathercole and Resty Lagare. Filipino models could not walk for the Filipino designers? Thank you to Jacob Meir of For the Stars Fashion House for standing his ground and fighting for the Filipinos as the five models, Jamie and Kiana were his personal choices. Thank you to @verygathercole @coutureprince @eliemadi for standing by the Philippine models, Jamie and Kiana. @forthestarsfashionhouse @kianavee @jherrell94 @cherryssalon @victoria_belo @johnlozano10 @rajolaurel @tony33chua @manilagenesis @garyvalenciano @chuckgomez05 @pacificrimvideo @kris_p_pata @kathlynanne @sthanlee @steve_angeles_ @noreen_lanie @petergonzaga salamat. The world is getting darker. We actually ought to just choose to be kind and just. What an experience ! Thank God our daughter lives for far more than just fame and glory. #kianavalenciano #kiana #lafashionweek #spreadlove @erikrosete

“The way you look should be the last thing on your mind when it comes to beauty.” – Kiana my daughter Walking on the ramp at LA FASHION WEEK would probably have been a check on my daughter’s bucket list as many know that she ran away from the call of showbiz for many years to sew and learn fashion design, even taking short courses in London to pursue her passion for fashion as she loved to draw dresses and gowns since she was little. This lady chose a sewing machine over more expensive, material presents as a must-have-gift as a teenager. To rob her of a dream-come-true opportunity was not nice at all. It was actually horrible. God bless the organizer nonetheless and I pray this never happens to his daughter, son, niece or nephew. We moved schedules and appointments to make it to this event. One model flew from Vegas. One drove three hours from San Diego. Rocky flew from Manila like us. Resty and Elie from Kuwait. #kianavalenciano #kiana #lafashionweek #jamieherell @kianavee @garyvalenciano @paolovalenciano @yosameti @gabvalenciano @forthestarsfashionhouse @verygathercole @eliemadi @coutureprince @rajolaurel @johnlozano10 @erikrosete A post shared by Angeli Pangilinan Valenciano (@angelipv) on

So Kiana wasnt allowed by the organizers of the Opening Night of #LAFashionWeek to walk the ramp even if she was a special guest of Jacob Meir, owner of @forthestarsfashionhouse in Melrose. I post this photo (taken in the hall of ABSCBN) and you can call me a stage mom. But I am a mother and I am Filipina. And I am hurt. It was heartbreaking for me (as Kiana was excited) …but moreso for the 6 other Filipinas who were there at the Macarthur already. Seeing makeup artist Cherry Ordoñez cry as she relayed how shabbily former Miss Earth Jamie Herrell was treated and how humiliated the five Filipina models were after being rejected with an announcement “No Filipinas will walk” saddened and angered me. Was it a height issue? Then explain it kindly. We flew thousands of miles to participate in the fundraiser because Jacob and his partner Filipina Mildred Deang personally called us. We were hesitant as she had schedules but we moved them for the event. Thank you Jacob, Rocky, Elie and Resty. You are brave warriors for a great cause. You stood your ground for the 7 Filipinas and one happened to be Gary’s and my daughter. It must have been so difficult for you to be firm with your decision not to participate in the fashion show which was totally your show but you stood by the girls. She may not have made the cut in their eyes but your decision blessed our family tremendously. Kiana is our “baby” and this was below-the-belt painful. You will forever have the gratitude and friendship of the Valenciano family. #kiana #kianavalenciano #thevalencianos #notohate #notoracism #spreadlove #lafashionweek
