A closer look at Uratex operations

The day began with a walkthrough of Uratex’s largest and most technologically equipped facility in Plaridel. Operational since 2000 and spanning over 450,000 square meters, the site plays a major role in the company’s nationwide production and distribution.

Guests were led through each major zone of the plant, beginning with the foam block production area, where raw materials are blended with precision under strict quality protocols. From there, the group moved into the curing and cutting stations, where newly formed foam blocks are stabilized and shaped through automated systems designed to optimize yield and reduce material waste, respectively.

The fabrication, assembly and packaging areas showcased Uratex’s continuous improvements in process efficiency, particularly with the recent addition of automated mattress assembly lines in 2023. The automated systems support a higher production rate, ensure consistent bonding across various foam layers used in mattress configurations and deliver a seamless  flow.

Guests also visited the company’s in-house product testing and research area, where engineers and specialists conduct durability tests, density checks, and performance evaluations. These measures form a core part of the company’s quality assurance program and are aligned with ISO 9001:2015 standards.

Warehousing and delivery areas capped the tour with upgraded racking systems and organized loading zones supporting the smooth flow of finished goods across the country.

Throughout the walkthrough, Uratex representatives emphasized how the integration of lean manufacturing, automation, and real-time monitoring tools helps the company uphold both volume and quality benchmarks.

The facility employs over 500 workers, the majority of whom are part of plant operations. The rest support administration, engineering, warehousing, and quality assurance. Production is run in multiple shifts to meet national demand and support distribution across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

“This is our opportunity to express gratitude and to reaffirm what we stand for,” said Medina. “We may be known for our foams and mattresses, but more than that, we want to be known for being reliable—whether you’re a customer, a partner, or a team member.”

Uratex also confirmed ongoing expansion plans, including the development of its very own distribution center, aimed at increasing capacity and improving delivery service in key areas. Further details are expected to be shared in the coming years.

The Trusted Brand recognition took place at RONAC Lifestyle Center in Mandaluyong, where the company hosted a program centered on dialogue, recognition, and gratitude.

The event opened with a fireside chat featuring Mrs. Cheng, along with Mr. Eddie Gallor, executive vice president of automotive, and Mr. William Lee, executive vice president of furniture and bedding. Their discussion focused on Uratex’s approach to operational integrity, leadership, and brand longevity.

The Sisters of Mary School celebrated a topping-off ceremony for its Digital Transformation Center in Silang, Cavite, on Sunday, March 23, 2025. This event marks the completion of the building’s structural framework.

The construction of the facility, named the Felicidad Sy Hall-Digital Transformation Center, is a collaboration between the Felicidad T. Sy Foundation Inc. (FTSFI), Fr. Al’s Children Foundation, Inc. (FACFI), and the Sisters of Mary School.

The center will facilitate Technical-Vocational Education and Training (TVET) initiatives, incorporating digital resources, software training labs, and workstations. Its goal is to provide training that aligns with industry requirements, equipping students for careers in digital and technology-oriented sectors.

The institution expects the center to expand job opportunities for students, increase self-reliance, and support economic growth by producing skilled graduates for the workforce or entrepreneurial ventures. The Digital Transformation Center is part of the school’s efforts to improve education and training opportunities for students entering the job market.

“As we look up at this nearly completed structure, let us also look forward—to the many dreams that will be realized, the potential that will be unlocked, and the futures that will be built within these walls. The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) Private Sector Alliance for Disaster Resilient Societies (ARISE) Philippines, a leading resilience network in the country, held its first annual general meeting for 2025 on January 27 at the ARISE Secretariat headquarters in MOA Square, Mall of Asia Complex. With a growing membership of 156 private sector companies, civil society groups, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and academic institutions, ARISE Philippines is poised to significantly impact disaster resilience efforts nationwide.

Under the theme “Catalyzing Progress for a Resilient and Sustainable Future towards ARISE 2030,” the meeting was grounded in the words “Innovate, Integrate, and Elevate,” urging members to embrace new approaches, collaborate across sectors, and raise the bar for disaster resilience standards.

Chief of Office UNDRR Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific Marco Toscano-Rivalta, in a video message, commended ARISE Philippines for its outstanding contributions to disaster risk reduction. “I extend my profound gratitude for ARISE Philippines’ exemplary leadership and contributions,” he stated. He referenced the Asia Pacific Ministerial Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction held in Manila last October 2024, saying, “Your efforts were instrumental to the event’s success. ARISE has showcased the power of public-private partnerships and set the benchmark for other regions to follow.”

Patients who joined the medical mission in SM City Legazpi received free vitamins and medicines.

SM Foundation recently conducted four medical missions across the Bicol region, providing free healthcare services to over 3,900 residents. These missions offered essential medical check-ups, dental services, ECG, and X-ray examinations.

The first mission was held at Naval Forces Southern Luzon in Legazpi City, delivering over 550 medical services in partnership with the Naval Forces Southern Luzon Command and SM City Legazpi.

Another mission followed at SM City Legazpi, serving more than 900 beneficiaries. Partners included uniformed personnel from the Naval Forces Southern Luzon Command, Bureau of Fire Protection Region V, and Philippine National Police Region V, along with LGU Legazpi City, MX3, and DMIRIE Foundation.

SM Foundation also collaborated with Watsons’ Alagang Pangkalusugan program for two additional missions in Bombon and Calabanga, Camarines Sur.
