Nagpulong sina Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte at Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad sa Malakanyang bilang bahagi ng dalawang araw na state visit nito sa bansa.
Sinalubong ni Pangulong Duterte si Mahatir pagdating nito sa Malakanyang at binigyan ng full military honors, kahapon.
Sa kanilang pulong, inihayag ng pangulo na mananatiling matatag ang ugnayan ng Pilipinas at Malaysia simula pa noong 1959 at bilang kapwa miyembro ng Association of Southeast Asian Nations o ASEAN.
Pangulong Duterte: “Let me again say, the Philippines’ destiny is in ASEAN and in Asia. Asia’s destiny is in Asia. Malaysia, the Philippines’ partner for progressand brother for peace will continue to play an important role as a generate and continue to progress our shared aspirations for the greater peace progress, prosperity and stability in the ASEAN.”
Nagpasalamat naman ang Malaysian leader sa paglagda sa ilang kasunduan hinggil sa kalusugan at edukasyon habang kanyang tiniyak ang pagtutulungan ng dalawang bansa na sugpuin ang terorismo.
Malaysian Prime Minister Mohamad: “I look forward to the finalization and the signing of the memorandum of understanding within the government of Malaysia and the government of the Republic of the Philippines. The president and I also emphasize on the importance of education. We discuss program for the teachers and students especially in Mindanao. The president and I also talked about security measures. Malaysia is committed to think the necessary steps to address the serious issues of terrorism and violent extremism through the trilateral cooperation agreement.”
